School was out for the summer, and CW, Steve and Justin were ready to make a go with Sound System. They'd been writing new songs since they'd completed Busted the previous summer, and had recently completed another new album, Home Turf, on Steve's new four-track recorder. Now all they needed were some live gigs to get their name around the area.
Justin managed to get the band a gig at the July 4th celebration in his home town of Pleasantville. CW had been living with his grandfather in Pleasantville as well, and his front yard was a fine place to rehearse. If it got too late, or too wet, or too cold, they could always go "unplugged" and move the rehearsal inside.
In the spirit of Busted, CW set his boombox out in front of the band to record the rehearsals that summer, and the July 4th performance as well. They worked out the set list for the show, jammed on some songs from the past (and a couple they'd never played before), and even played "For Sherry," for Sherry.
On the last night of rehearsal, CW showed the band a new song he'd written with Rob Straughn: "Over the Blue." It was the start of a new direction for the band, and a creative spark that set their new album, A Safe Place, in motion.
