WinMacTech policies
My rates are the same whether I work on your computer at my workshop, or in your home or office. I do prefer to work from my shop -- that's where I keep my tools and software. You don't need to bring monitors, printers, keyboards or mice -- just the processing unit and its power cord.
But sometimes there are good reasons to work on the computer in its home or office location -- setup or trouble with Internet or network connections, printing troubles, or overheating issues. There's no point in penalizing you when this is the case.
I charge a flat fee of $35 per hour (billed in 15-minute increments) beginning when I start working. When I go "on location" to your home or office, I do insist on a minimum 1 hour charge. If I have to travel more than 30 miles, I may ask for a slightly larger minimum charge. However, unlike some of the big tech services, I don't charge you hundreds of dollars just to show up at your door. You're paying me to work, not to drive.
When I order parts and software for your computer, I do charge a nominal fee for that service. However, I'm aware that anyone can go on eBay or to an online store to order new or used parts and software, so my fee is limited to 20% of my cost.
I'm comfortable working on just about any computer: Windows PC or Macintosh, desktop or laptop. Older operating systems don't bother me: I've worked with Windows 3.1, 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP; and with Mac OS 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and X. I even know the old MS-DOS and Apple II systems.
When you find a service provider you trust -- whether it's a mechanic, a doctor, or a baby sitter -- you call on that same provider when you need service again. My goal is to earn and keep your trust -- it's that simple. I want your experience with me to be a positive one, and I want your friends and colleagues to call me as well.
